long lasting lashes
help her stay fresh
silky smooth
nothing ruffled
dry for a man
luscious yet light
put on a face
brighter than your fattened-up
lengthened-out
body like heaven
the shape
ready to be discovered
wherever you go
why just blush when you can
get with him
forget what they say
be strong
defy convention
be daring
actually
take it off
I wrote this as part of National Poetry Month this year, when I participated in a challenge to write 30 rough drafts of 30 poems in 30 days! This project was inspired by advertisements from the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s for women’s cosmetics and clothing. It’s a tongue-in-cheek look at what comprises the “ideal” woman.
